Why Decide BOSU?

Fitness News - Tue, 09/07/2010 - 05:32
The word BOSU
is an acronym for Both Sides Up and what you have is two products in one In one set-up, you have a product you can stand on, sit on, lie on and do a array of new actions with many of your conventional movement patterns.
Then when you rotate the BOSUover, you have an unstable surface that you can use for upper body and torso exercises. So, grab a BOSUif you are seeking for a very versatile instability training product.

What is it for?

As with every instability products, the fact that when you use them, they shift, you obtain an extra amount of muscle recruitment and therefore benefits of doing workouts.

If you think of traditional activities you already recognize, for example, press ups - when you perform them on the BOSU the reaction or movement means that your muscles are firing fast to compensate for the unstable surface.

If you turn it over, you can successfully have equipment to work your feet to the top of your head, as by working on the BOSU it makes you concentrate and acquire your stability until in due course your movement patterns will become more symmetrical, more balanced and more powerful.

How do you use BOSU?

A good way to use the BOSU is to use traditional exercises you are previously familiar with, for example lunges, and once your students have obtained a level of proficiency on those exercises, launch an extra challenge of completing them on a BOSU. From here lunges, and the challenge and activity level is increased since you are exercising upon an unstable surface. As the moment you are making is in contact with the BOSU, you have got to react and engage more muscle firing In order to keep balanced and to keep strong.

You can work from the floor to the BOSU, or from the top surface off and on. You can employ several actions adding challenge and intensity. Flip the BOSU over and take traditional exercises, like the sit up, use them on to an unstable surface and instantly have a greater level of intensity.

What are the benefits of using BOSU?

The benefits to the user - as the actual surface of the BOSU is moving whilst you work, it makes you more focused and more aware of how your body is doing. Therefore, if the board wobbles back and forth, you can see it and feel it, meaning you can actually rectify the situation.

So using a BOSU is going to increase the client’s body awareness, whilst at the same time improving their balance, co-ordination and strength levels.

There are a number of BOSU products on sale:

BOSU Ball Balance Trainer Pro

how should my workout sessions be laid out?
since im new, should i do a little bit of everything each day, or focus on a certain set of muscles each session?
how many rest days should i take out of the whole week

Desperately need advice/tips to start working out

Fitness News - Mon, 09/06/2010 - 23:18
Hey guys, I'm male, 27 years old, 5'9" and about 165 lbs. I have access to a bowflex because my roommate has one. I have never worked out a day in my life, don't have much knowledge on fitness, don't go jogging or anything, basically nothing. I am also looking towards signing up for a local gym soon as I have friends who go constantly and I believe that will help motivate me. I recently finished college and I now have the time to exercise a lot.

I do not want to become skinny, I used to be 110 pounds in high school! I want to gain a lot of muscle and become very confident.

What advice do you guys have? What type of workouts should I do? Routine? Do I work out only on Monday/wed/Fri like some friends do? ANY tips will help.

Get Healthier Weight Loss Results

Fitness News - Mon, 09/06/2010 - 22:18
The very first thing to remember when you wish to lose weight in a hurry is that it isn't safe to lose too much weight too fast. The truth is weight loss should happen gradually. Losing weight generally is a challenge, but if you are consistent and can incorporate these easy tips in your daily lifestyle, it is probably not as difficult as what it seems.

Foods that are rich in their fat content should definitely be avoided. Someone desperate to lose weight should not consume more than 25% of the calories intake from non - saturated fat. Many research and studies have shown that table sugar increases calories consumption. It is a incontrovertible fact that eating sweet would make you need to eat more of everything and also make the body emit chromium that is a mineral that helps in production of calorie burning lean tissue. Increasing the intake of dietary fibre can also assist in weight loss as foods rich in fibre assist in curbing hunger and improving the digestive system. Rich fibre foods include fruits, whole grain cereals and vegetables. In actual fact it can be advisable to consume fresh and raw vegetables and fruits instead of junk food and other snacks. This could also result in a stronger immune system and great skin. Rich protein diets are an incredible fat burning mechanism which helps in initiating weight loss and building muscles. Finally avoid salty food when attempting to lose weight as salt forces the body to retain water which leads to bloating.

When that occurs, then you've come towards the weight loss area of stability, stopping you from losing weight. Next, definitely anyone who's on that style of diet, would prefer to lose more weight and overcome the plateau. So the logical thing to do is to reduce more calories and the very next thing they know, they're mainly eating nothing. We as individuals cannot continue on a low calorie diet for a long period of time. People will get so distressed, that despite their strong willpower, they considerably increase their calories and this will cause their weight to return.

A different one of the many ways that you might be able to achieve fasts weight loss or rapid weight loss is with the use of a cleanse. These cleanses are commonly referred to as colon cleanses or losing weight cleanses. Cleanses work by removing toxins and additional weight, actually waste, from your body. It could have been said that most individuals have at the least seven or eight pounds of waste stored in their bodies. A weight reducing cleanse or a colon cleanse should help remove those toxins from your body.

One may certainly be able to fulfill the dream of getting a fit and well toned body with wonder working fat loss secrets. While on your journey to scale back weight one must likewise be careful avoiding the common fat loss mistakes which could make the condition even worse.

But if you are really serious about losing weight, this next thing is the most effective, Fast Weight Loss Guide by visiting slimmingsupply.com to follow.

Graduate student seeking to avoid excess body weight - diet never changes figure

Fitness News - Mon, 09/06/2010 - 13:05
Hello all, I'm a graduate student who has had an on-again, off-again relationship with fitness for most of my life. I was a casual weightlifter and third-string varsity runner during high school, and the long-term effect of this is that I have massive leg muscles (built for endurance, not speed, though), and while I've always had a "beer belly," my arm muscles have never completely lost their definition, despite the fact that since I started college I haven't maintained a fitness routine.

At various points in my life since then I've made extensive changes to my diet and lifestyle, ranging from limiting my diet to 1400 calories a day and running 10 miles a day for a month at one point, to complete inattention to physical activity and regular consumption of junk food. ("Complete inattention" still included regular walking of 4-6 miles per day.)

The issue is that regardless of my level of physical activity and the quality of my diet, I've been between 180 and 200 pounds regardless, and this hasn't really changed as one might expect based on activity. While my restricted-diet-and-intense-running got me a few comments about my leg muscles being even larger than usual and a "you look a bit more in shape," it didn't eliminate my beer belly, and my actual weighed-in weight was somewhere in between 180 and 200. Conversely, since starting graduate school the most exercise I've managed is a jog every few nights (plus my regular walking schedule) and I am currently at 192 pounds, where I would have expected to at the very least be at the upper end of the 200 scale. My beer gut doesn't seem visibly larger, although I suppose the weight variability could come from a loss of leg muscles. (Unless I'm actively lifting, which I'm not, my arm muscles tend to remain a fairly consistent size.)

I don't have a consistent diet, really... I eat a lot of carbs, and fewer meats. I would say my daily caloric intake is definitely higher than it should be, and I take antidepressants that have a side effect of weight gain. At various points, feeling insecure about my body has led me to try hard to address this, as I mentioned above - but since I see at most very minimal results, it's grown hard to convince myself to ignore cravings for unhealthy foods. I feel very insecure about being "fat," but what it boils down to is that I have a couple of inches in my "spare tire" area that I can't get rid of, and my dad has the same thing, and despite being a four-days-a-week gym-going ex-Marine who regularly consults with his doctor on his diet, he still has that spare tire as well. I guess I'm not that bothered by the beer gut, since it disappears with a well-fitted dress shirt - but I'm also paranoid about gaining weight in other areas that will make me less attractive.

So, here's my question - I didn't just make this thread to make excuses about why I'm not currently dieting or exercising. If I want to avoid gaining any more weight, reduce my beer gut if possible, but my primary interest is avoiding weight gain that would be noticeable when I'm dressed in professional clothing, what are the best things I can focus on, diet and exercise wise?

Greetings!

Hey everyone, it's great to find a forum for people concerned with physical fitness. Anyway, I'll try to be a contributing member of these forums, and I'm glad to meet everyone.

Hi - New Member here -Teaching Ninja Bo Staff & Samurai Sword Conditioning classes

Fitness News - Mon, 09/06/2010 - 12:20
Hi,

I'm new to the forum, but I wanted to introduce myself, and the classes that I teach. They are an alternative type of conditioning training classes, based on the philosophies of the Ninja & Samurai. I started these classses, while I was practicing this form of martial arts, so that I could get myself in much better condition. These conditioning classes not only work your body, but your mind as well, and you have the added bonus of subtlety learning self-defense.

My Ninja Bo Staff conditioning class is a solid 60 minute workout that combines, aerobics, stretching, and flexibility exercises, all while using a 6 foot stick.

My Samurai Sword conditioning class is a solid 60 minute workout that combines, aeorbics, stretching, and flexibility exercises, all while using a wooden sword.

I have just recently added a 1/2 & 1/2 class that combines both the Ninja Bo Staff and Samurai Sword class into one 60 minute workout.

I offer the First class Free of Charge, and I welcome any of you who may have interest in this form of workout out, to stop by for the class.

For further information, please go to my website at Home- Ninja Bo Staff Conditioning, Hypnosis, Stress Relief.

I look forward to being a part of this forum and fitness website. By the way, I'm located in the West Los Angeles area.

Does recumbent bike help at all?

Fitness News - Mon, 09/06/2010 - 09:14
Hi guys,

Does recumbent bike really help with burning calories?

1) I goto the gym and use the elliptical for 30 mins and really feel like a good workout - bit tired, sweating etc. Burning around 350 calories.

2) I work on the recumbent bike (a very decent model) for 90 mins and supposly burned close to 1200 calories. The problem is I dont feel ANYTHING, no sweating, not tired, it doesnt feel like a workout at all. And yes I set the resistance level pretty high etc..

I mean if i am burning the same amount of calories, so by all means I would prefer the recumbent as it seems a much easier workout.

Thanks

Carn't seam to shake these cravings

Fitness News - Mon, 09/06/2010 - 07:58
So basically I basically have this craving problem.

I exercise often and eat healthy most of the time

I'm 19 and live at home with my parents and my house is just full of a million different types of chocolate and junk food items. And when I am at home they are constantly being offered to me (mainly in the evening after dinner) by my parents, because the eat chocolate every night.

I know I'm not hungry I make sure I have a big dinner so I shouldn't feel like eating something, but 7 out of 10 times, they cravings will start and I will end up eating something small then something else and this continues until I'm really annoyed with myself.

Even if I'm not near my parents or the any food I just feel like I have to eat something even if I'm not hungry.

I sometimes go a few days but then the cravings get too strong and they get to me.

I need some help please? I need to loose a few kgs before summer.

This has been going on for far too long and I need some tips to get me through.

Thanks in advance, Ben

How To Stay on Track

Fitness News - Mon, 09/06/2010 - 06:14
I was speaking to one of my clients the other day. He was having great difficulty following his eating plan and exercise program, which is why he hired me as a coach. Often times, the only “exercise” an executive or professional person has is “climbing” the corporate ladder. As their professional life is soaring, their wellness is crashing and burning. Deadlines, appointments, “flash” meetings, and traveling often create extreme difficulty in pursuing a balanced life. The saddest reality is, however, that once something happens to “us”, our companies continue to make profits and operate as if we were never an integral part of the machine in the first place. How sad. Sometimes, I believe that we place more value on our roles in our companies than our companies do. What we don’t place value on is our own, personal health.

So, what type of mindset do we need to embrace in order to ‘keep on keeping on’ when everything around us is pulling us in the opposite direction? Well, for starters, I’d open up the obituary portion of your local newspaper. Notice the ages of the people depicted for whom their families are eating at the funeral lunch. Next, I’d like you to think about how YOU feel the moment you step foot out of your bed and onto the floor in the morning. Are you just totally excited about living out the day? Or, would you prefer to either crawl back into bed OR turn the clocks back 20 years?

Well, if you’re like most of us — you really can’t do either one. You could call off sick, but you probably won’t because if you called off sick every time you felt this badly…well…you’d never go to work. As far as turning back the clocks — well — good luck with that one! So, what kind mind game can we play with ourselves to help us along?

For starters, realize that there is no doubt about it. We are all going to pass on some day. I wish I could say that lifestyle plays no part in our life-span. But, let’s face it. If we habitually ride a motorcycle like a maniac without a helmet, we have a pretty good chance of having an accident and not surviving. I believe in miracles and I know God can intervene where-ever and whenever He wants. But, He also gave us a brain and we make our choices. Although, bad things can happen to careful people, bad things can definitely happen to reckless people. The most sobering idea I will share with you today is that many of us are killing ourselves slowly over time instead of quickly while being reckless. Yes, getting old DOES happen over time. But, we can actually “be” 15 to 20 years “older” in age than we really are just by making poor lifestyle choices as they relate to our eating habits, exercise habits, and sleeping habits.

Learning to prepare foods with little or no fat content, choosing a piece of fruit over a piece of cake, doing cardio and strength training 3 to 4 times per week for at least 30 minutes a day, and getting 8 hours of sleep a night will greatly improve the way you feel. In fact, if you implement the first three suggestions here, you’ll see an improvement in your ability to sleep, as well.

Now, please do NOT misunderstand me. You can do everything right and still die what seems to be an untimely death. This is a universal truth for which no one has an answer. God is in control and sometimes we don’t understand the things that life throws at us or our loved ones. But, this universal truth does NOT alleviate us from our accountability for our own health and wellness.

Think about it this way: We’re all gonna die; but, I wanna feel good until I do.

Any kettlebellers around?

Fitness News - Mon, 09/06/2010 - 01:18
Started a kettlebell routine today, got them about about a week ago (the dragondoor ones) and started doing some stuff. Yesterday I formed a 'plan' and now have a 3 month commitment to try and lose some weight.

Anyone else into kettlebells here?

I used to lift pig iron 10 years ago, then gained a bunch of extra weight and got really out of shape. About a year ago I started a weight regiment and tore my biceps tendon, so after some research I've decided that these will help rehab my shoulder, give me some cardio that feels like lifting, and will hopefully get me in reasonable shape. Well I'm going to try anyway!

So Im 26, 6' 0", and 213lbs. In the last two years I have cut down from 296lbs and obviously feel a ton better physically. I usually feel great mentally as well(happy). I was about 220lbs for around 5-6months and four months ago started lifting heavier and increased intensity with my lifting and cardio routines and have gotten to 213lbs. I started seeing a lot less gains in the last month and so I started taking protein, and eating more lean meats and fish. Anyways, I feel kind of emotional as of the past month or so. I have also been easily irritated by things that I would usually just blow off and not think twice about. I am wondering if its possibly the protein supplements?

HELLLO (: im a typical asian and Ive been trying to get a six pack but Ive realized that my abs are really screwed up. Is there any way to change this? I know there are stuff like genetics and things ive been hearing but Im pretty sure my abs werent like this at first. I think. Is there any way to change this? I think Im working out incorrectly since im just doing sit ups but please comment and tell me what I should do. I hate how retarded it looks and Im even thinking about gaining weight so it wont show too much.
Oh btw I dont work out a lot. RarelyAttachment 4852 Attached Thumbnails
