downside factors to HIIT?
it seems suspicious, using up all your energy in a short significant time, and personally i don't care about the fat burn content since i don't need that, i care about the part of, is it truly healthy to over work your body?
this i would really like to know. Is there any bad things about pushing yourself in a small amount of time?
and what about endurance with HIIT?
it doesn't seem logical to me that it helps your endurance better than cardio at a rapid but not so extreme level for a LONG time would.
if i am running for my chest to literally explode and not caring for the breaths, how am i supposed to endure better? and what about strength? How would it help with strength?
i know it always ups my heart rate and body recovery time though.
when i do extreme rounds to the point of passing out, it only takes a few minutes to recover and less and less each time. But i still don't think its good for the body to get to the point of wanting to pass out, or inducing near heart attacks.
we do Puke Rounds at muay thai, extreme, extreme rounds of repeated punches, kicks, roundhouses, elbows, and believe me it wears you out doing round house kicks over 50 times as fast as a heart beat while trying to keep the proper stance, as soon as that's over you rest, doing the stance jog, then fast push ups, sit ups, then your back in for 3 more intervals, then you take a break, drink water and then 3 more puke rounds. They call it a puke round for a reason. Lots of people end up vomiting on the floor before they're even finished, or simply passing out. But this type of activity should only be for people who are committed to martial arts or planning on being in a major fight of death that will never freakin end. I seriously don't think the extremities are needed for anything else, because it's not healthy mentally at all, and im unsure if its healthy physically in the long run.
Okay, i really enjoyed the head rush, the adrenalin in all this, but it was my doctor who advised me that if you overdo it you might get less results, not to mention possible injuries, low blood pressure, dehydrated, muscle deterioration, fainting spells, heart problems, panic attacks, and blah blah blah.
I don't know, i'm just really suspicious, (i would love to get back into this but i don't know if i should because i do tend to get into over working out and i really just want to do what's healthy) so please, i would love for answers and someone to enlighten me on this.
Thanks,
Sabrina.

Hey everyone :)
I'm Sabrina. I'm in search of thrilling fitness ideas to keep me motivated, and to learn more of how i can increase my endurance, and strength.
I'm the type of person who's into thrilling outgoing activities like krump hip hop dancing, muay thai kickboxing, extreme workouts, longboarding, and sports. i am in constant need to change up routine. so when i hit the gym, i get bored by same routine.
I'm in shape, but i want to perfect my body physically, i need to live as an athlete it's what i love doing. (another goal is to get out of the perfectionist mindset. it's never good, it doesn't actually motivate me, it makes me feel bad about the accomplishments i have made.)
I'm not really healthy, considering i become addicted to working out easily and have an unhealthy relationship with food. Thus my fitness goals are to work out and eat healthily. Finding a balance. I have to go to the gym and sit down, have a glass of water and watch everyone else sweat! To learn how to relax as well as work out!
I want to run for as long as i can, but not marathon running, or on the street, just treadmill running, because i need my knees and legs for martial arts.
I also want to lose 5 pounds. Tone my muscles everywhere, especially work on my legs. My thighs are incredibly strong, but they still are not as firm as they should be and i have horrible cellulite under my butt i want to get rid of, i think it appeared last summer when i was dehydrated and drinking whiskey, (yes i'm a recovering alcoholic and physical activity helps me) now the cellulite won't go away, and i hope toning will harden it so it appears less. I also have a goal to drink more water - it's harder than it sounds :)
My stable weight is 125, can go up five pounds if i'm bloated with food (digesting problems)
and my height is 5'8. My bones are medium size. I have lots of muscle, pretty firm everywhere except my butt i think, and people say i look like i am healthy.
I have a small problem about this though. Calculations say i am a little underweight, so i don't know if i should actually try and get down to 120. I don't want to lose any strength i have, so not sure if it's a good idea or not.
Anyway that's my intro and my fitness goals!

Need to burn body fat with a new routine
Hey guys,
So basically for the last year or so I've been doing relatively the same weight lifting routine: on average 4 days a week.. bicep/tricep, rest, shoulders, rest, chest/back, rest, start over. Sometimes i would do shoulders after bicep/tricep without a day of rest or i'd mix in some cardio on the days of rest. For the most part my routine remained the same in terms of sets & reps & most of the exercises I've been doing. I've gotten bigger and stronger but it seems that over the past 2-3 months I've been gaining some body fat. I don't why this is because I have a really healthy, low-carb, high protein diet and because I work out almost every day I can't see why this has been happening. I think I'm starting to figure it though... i sometimes tend to rest more than necessary in between sets and i'm doing the same routines without pushing my muscles hard enough... like i don't sweat at all during workouts and yeah obviously i push my muscles to an extent but it's starting to feel like i'm just going through the motions. i decided to switch it up yesterday and do a superset workout for my arms and do different exercises and it was the first time in a while that my arms felt swole as hell after my workout! my biceps were totally shot. by working tricep while my bicep rested for each exercise i wasn't allowing myself rest and i really felt like i was getting a great workout. and on top of that, i really worked up a sweat and got my heartbeat up, something that has been lacking in my workouts, and i've been trying to compensate for with cardio lately.
To sum it up, I really need to start getting leaner and more cut and shed off some body fat, so I'm thinking of going at like 75% of my previous weight and doing circuit / superset training to really get my heartrate up and shed bodyfat as well as get defined muscle. I don't want to get huge anyways, I'd rather be fairly big but lean and defined. Looks much better and I think it's a healthier route. I think I've just been on the same routine for way too long. Do you guys think this will work? What do you suggest?
Any feedback really helps. Appreciate it.

Need help for chest fat
Hi I'm a male 16 years old. I sit around 14% body fat percentage.
I don't know whether to focus on losing weight to flatten my chest, or to weight train to tone it.

non starchy thickener question
Anyone have recommendations for a non starchy thickener to use in stews or sauces?
For instance, if i make a beef stew with carrots onions and celery (no potatoes) how can i make thicker without adding potatoe starch or flour?
Same thing with stirfry, if i make a sauce to coat my stirfry, i want something a little thicker than just soy sauce, but i dont want to use cornstartch to thicken it.
Any suggestions are apprecited

16 year old boy, advice on quickest way to lose weight
Hi there,
I'm 171 cms and 138 lbs pounds looking to lose 15-20 lbs as quickly as possible.
Currently go the the gym 3 times a week:
20 mins treadmill
10 mins cycling
10 mins elliptical trainer
and some weight machines, nothing major
Do this three times a week.
I know what you eat is important but a there's a question that I keep finding different answers to, WHAT WILL BURN MORE FAT CARDIO OR WEIGHTS? I thought cardio but have seen different things like going to the gym and spending an hour on the treadmill won't do it.
Also how can I improve on what I'm currently doing at the gym?
Any help would be great, thanks!

Chinese Herbal Therapy
There are number of Chinese herbal therapies to treat a variety of complaints that are available at Asian markets or online. I have compiled a short list and included their various uses. Those that are included are inexpensive, extremely effective, natural, and used for common issues. Having each will take care of most issues around the home ( a sort of Chinese herbal 1st aid box!)
Zheng Gu Shui
Bone and joint medicine
is a water based herbal therapy used to treat disorders of bone and dense connective tissue. It can be used to relieve arthritic symptoms, to speed the healing of bone fractures and breaks, to break up and remove calcium deposits, and heal bruising. It is similar to the kung fu medicine made by masters called Dit Da Jow.
Other uses include healing sinus congestion by placing a couple of drops in a steaming bowl of water and covering the head with a towel to inhale the vapors and several drops in a bath is an excellent way to speed leg muscle recovery from over training.
Yunan Baiyao
Bleeding mild to severe & prevents infection
It is a bleeding therapy that works so well that it is standard issue for Chinese soldiers. In fact, in the old days, when the sword was the weapon of choice, wars were fought in an effort to gain the secret to its recipe. It is useful for any type of bleeding, from small scrapes to major gashes (think sword injury!). In addition, it can be taken interanally to heal internal injury.
You can stop bleeding by packing a wound with sand or dirt but Yunan Baiyao goes much further than simply stopping bleeding. It also speeds heeling and a has a unique ability to draw out impurities which is great for deeper wounds that are in danger of becoming infected.
White Flower Oil
Muscle strain/pull, headache, stomach ache, nausea
White flower is like first aid in bottle because it an herbal therapy with so many applications. It is excellent as a muscle rub, and a product many massage therapists use. For headache, each box comes with a small chart to indicate where to rub it for relief. Several drops can be added to a glass of water and drunk to relieve nausea and it is naturally insect repellent!
Po Chai pills
Diarrhea/nausea
An herbal therapy no home should be without because it quickly cures diarrhea and other stomach complaints. In addition, it will cure the most severe hangover in less than two hours (drink up!)
Ching Wan Hung
Burns and open would healing
Ching Wan Hung is burn therapy that is a miracle in a tube. It will immediately stop pain when applied to burns and the speed at which it heals, is nothing short of amazing. In addition to fast healing, it has tissue regenerative properties that reduce scarring from severe burns and sometimes leave no scar at all.
It can be used on scalds and burns in the kitchen as well as chemical burns. Much better to have on hand than aloe vera, though the tube isn't nearly as pretty as the plant.
Wong Lop Kong
Joint pain and scrapes
Wong Lop Kong is commonly used to treat painful joints, especially true rheumatoid arthritis, and in particular those who cannot tolerate heat, such as the elderly. It is extremely useful to treat scrapes and road rash from skate boarding and cycling injuries because it stops bleeding and numbs the wound for pain free cleaning. In addition, it is a good treatment for insect bites.
Laryngitis Pills great for many throat ailments, will treat strep throat and for ANY fever! If you are losing or have lost your voice they will retrieve it in no time

dos and dont's for old knees
I had a knee problem a few years ago, pretty sure it was a slight miniscus tear or strain. Discomfort went away with rest. I have been doing regular weight training for about a month, mostly machines. For legs I've been doing leg press, leg extension(quads) and leg curls. Some posters don't like the leg extensions. I've started interval walking on treadmill. For healthy knees, what should I be doing or not doing, including technique suggestions. Thanks for any help.
Should natural bodybuilding be natural?
Old story but illustrates the point for my question.
Belgium bodybuilders flee anti-doping officials
Quote: The Belgian bodybuilding championship had to be canceled after anti-doping officials showed up and all the competitors fled.
«I have never seen anything like it and hope never to see anything like it again,» said anti-doping official Hans Cooman. He said some body builders just grabbed all their gear and ran off when he came into the room. Twenty bodybuilders were entered in the weekend competition.
«The sport has a history of doping and this incident didn't do its reputation any good,» Cooman said.
Belgium's bodybuilding federation did not dispute the facts but said it could not explain why the competitors had suddenly rushed off.
«There is only one conclusion I can think of and that is doping,» Cooman said.
During in-competition testing of body building events last year, the doping authorities of northern Belgium's Flanders region found three-quarters of the competitors tested positive for doping, with most showing excessive levels of anabolic steroids.
Cooman said he would report the case to the Flemish disciplinary committee, which will have to decide whether it can sanction competitors who refused to be tested.

Coran's Workout Journal
I started 2 weeks ago and this is what my workout consists out of so far.
Equipment:
I use the iron gym for most of my upperbody workouts.
Punching bag because it helps for cardio when I can't do other forms of cardio and also for some light martial arts training.
Jumping rope
5kg's worth of strap on weights (about 11 pounds)
Eating routine:
I was advised by a friend who lost a lot of weight and built up good muscle in 6 months, to eat a lot in the morning, average amount in the afternoon and very little in the evenings.
I now eat a plate of food in the mornings, some potatoes usually included (I don't make my own food so that makes it difficult), a meal replacement / protein shake after that (for my protein intake for the day), a smaller plate of food in the afternoon (was told no carbs after 4 in the afternoon) and a small amount of food in the evenings if anything.
Supplement routine:
I am taking some of these products Sports Performance Nutrition, SPN (so that you know what I am taking, if the link isn't allowed then just tell me and I'll remove it :) ). I take a metabolism optimizer to get my metabolism faster since my metabolism is normally very slow.
I take their meal replacement shake in the mornings after eating (maybe not the best idea but I'm experimenting since I didn't know any better, that's what I am here for though :P ).
I take a creatine gel 20 minutes before exercising though I don't do this every day.
I take their energy booster during exercising to reduce fatigue and also help reduce muscle soreness.
And last but no least I take something after exercising to help heal my muscles quicker and reduce soreness.
Exercise routine:
I currently have a 3 day exercise routine worked out but I think that I might need a 6 day workout routine instead.
I do a series of yoga stretches and other warm up stretches twice before exercising and once afterwards to prevent damaging my muscles and also muscle soreness. I do some stretches in between different exercises specifically for that muscle group to help and I also do some cardio pre-exercising, in between and after exercising.
Day 1: I do push ups, pull ups (I cheat though and support myself with one leg on a chair since I can't pull myself up yet), sit ups, lunges and curls (weight lifting curls) with my strap-on weights. I was on 2 sets of 30 reps each and 3 sets of 30 reps for sit ups last week and tried doing 2 sets of 40 reps each and 3 sets of 40 reps for sit ups but I only managed 1 set of 40 reps each and 2 sets of 40 reps for sit ups.
Day 2: I do dips, a different kind of abdominal exercise where I hang from the iron gym with my arms in straps and I lift my legs up, some hard punching and kicking my punching bag, I do wrist curls while holding my strap-on weights in my hand (I keep my arm supported and leave my wrist in the air and pick my wrist up forwards and backwards to give my wrist and my lower arm some exercise) and I was going to add squats but my leg muscles are usually so sore after doing a bunch of lunges that I can't do squats.
Day 3: I do just cardio. Though I haven't done cardio in a week because either a muscle in my left leg is too sore and I can't do jumping jacks nor jumping rope, or my back is too sore, or both. I only figured out how to get a good cardio workout with my punching bag last night which doesn't hurt my back or my leg.
I thought, after last night, that it may be best to make myself a 6 day routine instead. On day 4 and 5 I'll just do half the reps and sets of day 1 and 2 and that way I won't lose out on quality exercising time but I will also be giving my muscles a good amount of time and just the right amount of exercising to help heal my muscles and make them stronger.
Any ideas, tips and advice would be appreciated.
Oh and I am planning on buying some small weights still since my strap on weights don't work well for things like curls and so on.

Lost 5 Pounds In 8 Days
Recently decided to become a much healthier person so I have been eating lots of better foods you know fruit, veg, low fat meals also only drinking water and going to the gym 6 times a week. I have managed to go from 10 stone 6 pounds to 10 stone 1 pound in one week and I am very pleased with my results. I kept track of my results at home by making a chart and figured that I am burning around 500-1000 calories a gym session which last 1-2 hours. So I would like to thank all you guys and girls on this forum for all the useful tips. Also how much weight do you think I lose in order to stay healthy and safe I am about 5.6"-5.7" tall and 19 years old.
good deal?
hi, somebody on another forum is selling some weights, and i'm wondering if it's a good deal. he is selling 53kg of cast iron weights with barbell and dumbbells, weights bench with leg extension/curl attachment and 2 x 5kg concrete filled dumbbells for £60.
is that a good deal?
as some of you may know i've been looking for dumbbells and barbell, and a weights bench seems like a good idea too. the only problem is that i don't have loads of room to store the weights bench. do you think i need a weights bench or could i just go with th barbell and dumbbells?
cheers
